Fog of War Chess: Can You Win Without Seeing the Full Board?
Standard chess gives both players complete information — every piece is visible, every threat can be calculated. But what happens when half the board disappears into darkness?
Fog of War Chess is our unique twist on the classic game. The rules are simple: you can only see squares your pieces currently occupy or can move to. The rest of the board is hidden in fog. Enemy pieces are invisible until they step into your zone of control — and by then, it may already be too late.
This variant trains something most chess players neglect: intuition and positional awareness. When you can’t see the full picture, you’re forced to think about piece activity, space control, and anticipating threats you can’t directly observe. These are exactly the skills that separate intermediate players from strong ones.
How to play:
- You play White against our AI opponent
- Choose your difficulty: Easy, Medium, or Hard
- Control more squares → see more of the board
- The enemy king is hiding somewhere in the fog — find it and capture it to win
Whether you’re a beginner looking for a fun challenge or an experienced player wanting to sharpen your intuition, Fog of War Chess offers something genuinely different. Give it a try — and good luck seeing through the darkness.
